Ukraine Implement Sanctions on Belarus Over Backing for Russian Army

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Wednesday that Kyiv has implemented a package of sanctions targeting Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

The measures are intended to escalate counteractions against any Belarusian assistance that facilitates attacks on Ukraine. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine will coordinate with international partners to maximize the global impact of the sanctions.

Zelenskyy also accused Belarus of bolstering Russia’s military capabilities, claiming that Moscow deployed a network of relay stations in Belarus last year, enabling strikes on Ukraine’s northern regions, including Kyiv. He described the development and use of Belarusian infrastructure and enterprises to support the Oreshnik missile system as an “obvious threat not only to Ukrainians but to all Europeans.”

The Ukrainian president further alleged that Belarus has been helping Russia circumvent international sanctions, providing critical components and production capacity for weaponry, thereby prolonging the conflict. Zelenskyy emphasized that these activities are ongoing in 2026.

Alexander Lukashenko has not yet responded to the sanctions or the accusations made by Zelenskyy.
